You often hear of neurotoxins and fillers in the same sentence—so it’s not a shock that they’re usually thought of as the same thing. The truth is that although both neurotoxins like Botox® and dermal fillers offer great aesthetic results, they’re quite different.
At My Doctors Live MediSpa in Lakeland, FL, we treat our patients like family. We believe you deserve the best treatments, products, and services, so we constantly strive to offer the most effective and advanced nonsurgical aesthetics. And, even better, you deserve the gift of knowledge about the treatments you’re having.
Our blog today is part of that knowledge-sharing. As your friendly, in-the-know aesthetics experts, we’re breaking down fillers, neurotoxins, and the differences you should know.
What Are Dermal Fillers?
Dermal fillers are injectables that restore volume, smooth wrinkles, and enhance facial contours. They mainly treat the middle and lower parts of the face. They address:
- Loss of cheek volume
- Thin lips or loss of lip volume
- Smile lines (nasolabial folds)
- Wrinkles and fine lines
- Undereye hollows
- Facial asymmetry
Dermal fillers fill areas that have lost facial volume over the years, providing a more youthful and refreshed appearance. Fillers can last one or two years based on the formula, injection area, and your body’s response.
We offer dermal fillers from Radiesse®, Scluptra®, RHA®, and Restylane®. While all fillers help to restore volume, each product acts in its unique way. Our experts recommend a filler based on your treatment goals.
You can’t beat fillers for adding volume, as expected from their name. But fillers don’t correct the dynamic lines caused by muscle movement, like crow’s feet and forehead lines.
What Are Neurotoxins?
The most famous neurotoxin is Botox, a product that slows down muscle movement to smooth away wrinkles between the brows, in the forehead, and around the eyes.
We offer Botox-like products that work in a very similar way, but each offers unique benefits. Dysport® is stronger than Botox, and it can last longer. Xeomin® is a purified form of Botox. Daxxify® is a newer neurotoxin that uses a peptide as a stabilizer. It lasts around six months on average, longer than most other neurotoxins.
These products effectively reduce dynamic wrinkles created by facial expressions and muscle movement. But neurotoxins don’t add volume to your face.
